Mark D. Schooler, CLU started his insurance career March, 1959 in Dallas, Texas with Mutual of New York, now known as AXA. At that time Mark knew one person in Dallas – his fiancé Ann – a student at SMU. His initial criteria when meeting people as prospects was to ask “How can I help you?” To this day this is still his credo. With excellent guidance from his manager Percy Goyne and assistant manager Bill Conklin as well as his own tenacity Mark succeeded quickly. He qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table during his third year in the business (1962) and has qualified every year since.
Mark has received several significant honors along the way. He received Mutual of New York’s highest honor in 1973 when he was named “Man of the Year”. He was the youngest recipient in the history of MONY. He was the 1992 “Life Underwriter of the Year” in Dallas, Texas . He was named a “Distinguished Alumnus” of his college, Grinnell College . Mark has also been recognized with memberships in four prestigious insurance associations as well as having his CLU designation:
He has written numerous articles for Life Association News and Life Insurance Selling and has been a speaker on many occasions at MDRT, The Top of the Table Main Platform and The Forum. He is a former member of the Dallas Association of Life Underwriters, serving as President during 1971 – 1972. Currently he is a member of the Dallas Estate Planning Council. Outside of the Life Insurance industry Mark has been very active as a director of numerous corporations and non-profits including:
He currently is a member of:
Mark’s entire career has been centered around his desire to help the people he meets anyway that he can. He certainly helps them with insurance planning but often helps them in other ways including connecting them with people, introducing them to possible investors if they are starting a new company and helping them get involved in the community. Mark’s philosophy is an ongoing belief in the art of NetWeaving – a phrase penned by the author of Power NetWeaving and The Heart and Art of NetWeaving – Bob Littell.
In his award winning book Power NetWeaving Bob Littell writes the following: “Mark describes his brand of NetWeaving as physically introducing people to each other over breakfast, lunch, dinner or possibly over a glass of wine or two. In Fact, one of his best NetWeaving stories came as a result of his assisting an executive in the wine industry in California find a similar position at an internationally known winery also in California . Partially as a result of interacting with the executive, the key California winery sponsored a series of wine tastings and dining events in Dallas that has raised over $250,000 for a Dallas Charity.”
In The Heart and Art of NetWeaving Bob Littell writes “I’d be remiss if I didn’t also recognize one of my biggest cheerleaders and someone to whom I refer to as my “poster child” of NetWeaving – Mark Schooler in Dallas, Texas , as well as his wife Ann, whose NetWeaving story is included in this book. They truly eat, drink and sleep NetWeaving 24 hours a day. Mark almost can’t finish a conversation with someone without asking, And how can I help you? And he’s genuine when he says it.”
Mark’s current company Schooler Insurance Services is an outgrowth of The Schooler Group which he founded in 1978. The current company started in 2000 and represents all major insurance companies working primarily in the following areas:
In his leisure time, Mark is an avid bass and trout fisherman spending time at their house in East Texas as well as Lake City Colorado . He and his wife Ann travel extensively as they pursue their interest in food and wine in the US and Europe . Mark and Ann have three children, Matthew and his wife Ann and their 2 children. Katherine and her husband Sarp, and 1 child, Elizabeth and her 2 children. And their beloved Sheltie – Baxter Boy!
